Deborah was recently awarded the Musical Moments Franchisee of the Year Award 2019. She also founded the ‘Aire Ensemble’, whose motto is, “Classical music for all” because she believes in making live music accessible for everyone. Musical Moments had come to her notice, first via Twitter then through the job opportunities listed on the Leeds College of Music alumni newsletter. Having researched Musical Moments online she saw that it chimed with her belief about accessible live music and was a good way to bring musical experiences to vulnerable people who faced many barriers to experiencing live music.
The franchise opportunity seemed a good way to make this happen for her as a musician with a portfolio career of performing, teaching, arranging music, producing concerts and shows.
Deborah says “I was inspired by seeing for myself the positive impact interactive live music has on people. I have produced a childrens’ show, performed for the elderly, taught people with learning and physical challenges and brought live music into schools where the performance has to be interactive to engage the audience. Musical Moments will be a new challenge for me, a fresh way of doing interactive musical performances. Since becoming interested in taking on this franchise I have learnt some interesting things about music and dementia, for example how music can really connect with people when they seem to be disconnecting with life, how music is one of the last memories to go. Musical Moments presents an exciting new opportunity for me and I am really looking forward to engaging with this venture; this new musical adventure.”
